Natural Conception & Contraception
You can be in control over your reproductive health
There are many reasons why many women prefer to utilize natural conception and contraception methods instead of relying on medications or implants. We can connect you with the valuable resources you need so that you can gain more body literacy and plan your family in the way that you choose, including naturally.
What Is Natural Family Planning?
Natural conception and contraception, also known as natural family planning, is a way of approaching birth control that does not rely on medications or devices. This is seen as advantageous to many women since there are no ill side effects of approaching family planning naturally. In natural family planning, you will learn how to accurately track your fertility and determine when you are most likely to get pregnant.
What Are the Types of Natural Family Planning?
There are several common methods of natural family planning that our partnered practitioners can help you with. These methods include, but aren’t limited to:
The Rhythm Method: Perhaps the oldest method of fertility tracking, the rhythm method is based on the calendar and your typical menstrual cycle. Most menstrual cycles last between 28 and 32 days, with ovulation occurring around the 14th day. Using this method, you would avoid intercourse on days eight through 19 for natural contraception.
Cervical Mucus or Ovulation Method: This method relies on tracking the mucus that your cervix produces. During ovulation, your cervical mucus will appear differently than when you’re not ovulating. You’ll use this symptom to track your ovulation.
Basal Body Temperature (BBT) Method: This method takes into account the fact that your body temperature can rise between .5 and 1 degree when you ovulate and stay there until your next period. This information can guide your natural family planning practices.
Why Choose Natural Family Planning?
Every woman’s body is different, and it’s perfectly normal to want to listen to your body and allow it to function naturally. While natural family planning has a higher failure rate than other methods (about 24%), it is a method of family planning that is free, has no side effects, you can cease at any time, and does not have a lasting impact on your body. Several apps and resources are also available that make tracking fertility easier than ever before.
